Los Angeles Rams free agency 2021: Top 5 targets
1. OLB Markus Golden (Arizona Cardinals)
Pass-rushing outside linebacker Leonard Floyd joined the Rams a year ago as an unrestricted free agent because the Chicago Bears opted not to pick up the fifth-year option on the 2016 first-round pick. He responded with a career year in the City of Angels, racking up personal best with 55 tackles, two fumble recoveries and 10.5 sacks. He finished second behind 2020 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald (13.5) on the team in terms of QB traps and contributed mightily to the league’s top rated defense and a Rams’ club that gave up the fewest points in the NFL.
But he only signed a one-year deal with the club and can test free agency. Meanwhile, four-year pro-Samson Ekubam (4.5 sacks in 2020) can also become an unrestricted free agent if the Rams don’t re-sign him next month. The 2017 fourth-round pick from Eastern Washington has not missed a game in four seasons.
Outside linebacker Markus Golden has had his ups and downs during his career but has shown he has a knack for getting to opposing quarterbacks. There were 12.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in 2016 with Arizona and 10 sacks with the Giants in ’19. He returned to the Cardinals this past midseason and finished with 4.5 sacks in nine contests with the club.
