NBA G League will investigate Jeremy Lin’s claim he was called ‘Coronavirus’ on the court

The NBA G League is looking into Jeremy Lin’s allegations that he has been called “Coronavirus.”

Racism is unfortunately commonplace in this world, as Santa Cruz Warriors point guard Jeremy Lin alleges he was called “Coronavirus” by players on the court during an NBA G League game.

Lin is in his early 30s and hoping to get back into the league. The veteran point guard is best known for his days on the New York Knicks nearly a decade ago when Linsanity took over the Five Boroughs. The NBA G League says it will look into Lin’s allegations to see if there is any validity to them.

However, Lin also said in a Twitter message that he has no interest in snitching on anyone about the incident.

This is not the first time Jeremy Lin has experienced racism on the hardwood

Lin experienced racism on the basketball court as an Asian-American, dating back to his days with the Harvard Crimson, and presumably well before that. Outside of Yao Ming, there had not been an Asian who took the league by storm like Lin did during that magical run that was Linsanity. He was able to parlay that into a decade-long career in the league, playing on several teams in the 2010s.

If Lin’s allegations are true, then that is shameful. Just because the coronavirus emanated from the Wuhan province in China does not give anybody the right to mock someone’s ethnicity over it. However, unless the NBA G League has audio or visual evidence this type of exchange occurred, it will be unfortunately very hard to prove. Let’s just hope whoever allegedly said this to Lin will stop.

There is no place for racism in the NBA, in basketball or anywhere, for that matter.
