Twitter had thoughts on the Los Angeles Kings’ Reverse Retro jerseys on Saturday night.

This season, the NHL and adidas partnered up to create Reverse Retro uniforms for all 31 teams. The new uniforms switch up team colors and add designs that commemorate certain moments in that franchise’s history. While this was intended to add an alternate jersey option for each team, it was also meant to catch the eyes of fans who may be in the market for a new sweater to add to their collection.

On Saturday, the Los Angeles Kings wore their Reverse Retro uniforms for the second time this season in their game against the Minnesota Wild, whom also wore their alternate jerseys. The King’s forum blue (i.e. purple) and gold jerseys definitely turned some heads on NHL Twitter.

Kings’ alternate jerseys commemorate history

In addition to using the forum blue and gold color combination, the jersey’s logo is the one the Kings used during the Wayne Gretzky era. Specifically the logo honors the 1989-90 season, where Gretzky broke the NHL record for most points scored by a player in history, which was originally set by Gordie Howe (1,850). Gretzky tallied a grand total of 142 points (40 goals, 102 assists) that season, earning him the Art Ross trophy. While the Kings used a similar logo as the one used on this Reverse Retro jersey, their uniforms were silver and black.

As for the Wild’s Reverse Retro uniforms, they pay tribute to Minnesota’s former NHL franchise, the North Stars. The uniforms are designed similarly to the ones they wore during the 1978-79 season,  complete with their signature green and gold. The only difference is the Wild logo placed on the center of the jersey.

Seeing these two teams play with their Reverse Retro uniforms is very aesthetically pleasing, if we are being quite honest. These are probably the two best jerseys out of the 31 made. But that is up for debate for all hockey fans, as evidenced by the differences of opinions on Twitter.
