Angel Hernandez already missing obvious strike calls in spring training (Video)

MLB umpire Angel Hernandez is already making questionable strike calls.

Ah, baseball is back. The crack of the bat, the pop of a ball landing directly in someone’s glove, and Angel Hernandez making awful calls behind home plate. It’s the way of the national pastime, and something fans of every MLB team have adjusted to over the years.

Why Hernandez remains employed by Major League Baseball is another question entirely, but the man is the best argument running for robot umpires. On Day 1 of spring training, Hernandez showed he’s already in midseason form.

Most ballplayers need the spring to round into form, but Hernandez can make calls like these in his sleep. On behalf of Rob Manfred and MLB, we’d like to apologize to Nationals and Cardinals fans for what you’ve been forced to witness. Remember, the game doesn’t count. It’s merely an exhibition.

Umpires frequently get a bad rep, but Angel Hernandez is an exception

Hernandez sued Manfred and MLB back in 2017 for racial discrimination. While I’d never want to make light of such a serious issue, Hernandez’s work speaks for itself on a regular basis.

At 59 years old, Hernandez is one of more veteran umpires in the game today, which is why he’s included in so many big games. However, he’s also one of the most vocal. Hernandez personifies the ump show, meaning he often thinks of himself as bigger than the game itself.

While he’s fun to watch from the outside looking in, it’s about time Hernandez is held accountable for these awful calls. Enough is enough.
