Gary Sanchez had a rough start to spring training, and Yankees fans aren’t happy.

Who am I to call a fanbase entitled? Yankees fans have high expectations, and they should. When you’re chasing for World Series No. 28, it comes with sacrifices and tough decisions.

Gary Sanchez was once one of the best catchers in the game. While his defensive ability behind the plate has always been questioned, he more than made up for it with his bat and power at the dish. Now, even that is floundering.

Sanchez has put up some truly abysmal statlines the last few seasons, and despite a bounce-back storyline of sorts entering this spring, his first at-bat went about as poorly as one can imagine.

How should Yankees fans feel about Gary Sanchez at this point?

A little annoyed, if we’re being frank. Of course, one spring training at-bat shouldn’t be the prime motivator there. Sanchez has oh so much potential, but at some point he has to deliver. The man hit .147 in 2020, and struggled at times in what surprisingly amounted to an All-Star season in 2019. That was just one year after another sub-.200 season in 2018.

So, which Gary Sanchez can Yankees fans expect? Hopefully not the one that just struck out on three pitches. Yikes.
