The Ohio State football program gets the four-star commitment of wide receiver Kyion Grayes.

Four-star wide receiver Kyion Grayes committed to play for Ryan Day’s Ohio State football team Sunday. According to the 247Sports Composite, Grayes is the No. 2 player from Arizona, the No. 17 wide receiver in the country and the No. 127 recruit in the 2022 recruiting class. The Chandler, Arizona native committed to the Arizona Wildcats in August 2020, but decommitted in December.

Grayes is the 11th recruit to join Ohio State’s No. 1 recruiting class for 2022. The 6-foot-1 and 170-pound wide receiver was primarily recruited by Brian Hartline. At the time of his Ohio State commitment on late Sunday morning, Grayes held 17 official offers, including at both Arizona schools, Auburn, Iowa State, USC and Texas. Grayes is very excited about playing for Ohio State.

“Really, it’s just the environment,” Grayes told 247Sports on why he picked Ohio State. “I feel welcome. I’m at home with these coaches, the players and the commits I have with me. I can’t thank all the people enough. It makes me feel like I’m at home with them. I’m very excited. I can’t wait.”

Ryan Day is making sure his program will stay national championship-caliber

For years, Ohio State has been the lone school above the Mason-Dixon Line that recruits at an SEC blue-blood level. Other top Midwestern programs such as Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State do just fine in recruitment, but the Buckeyes are the only team to have won the College Football Playoff outside of the southeastern footprint. It is because the Buckeyes recruit so well nationally.

Yes, there is plenty of top-tier talent inside of Ohio’s borders, but with quality mid-level programs such as Cincinnati, Kentucky and Michigan State often creeping in on the Buckeyes’ turf, Ohio State must recruit from the best of the best nationally. This is why Hartline must venture into the Greater Phoenix Area to get a four-star receiver like Grayes to come to Columbus. It is working.

Ohio State stands a phenomenal chance to have the best recruiting class in the country for 2022.
