Will Johnson and Alan Bowman have committed to play for the Michigan football program.

The Michigan football team had an outstanding Sunday on the recruiting trails, as 2022 five-star cornerback Will Johnson and former Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman have committed to play for Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Johnson is the No. 1 player from Michigan, the No. 5 cornerback in his class and the No. 11 recruit in the nation for 2022. He had 28 offers, including Kentucky, LSU and Maryland. Johnson is the latest top recruit to commit to Michigan since former Dallas Cowboys defensive backs coach Maurice Linguist arrived in Ann Arbor only a month ago.

Bowman comes to Michigan as a graduate transfer quarterback. He played three years at Texas Tech, completing 67 percent of his passes for 5,260 yards, 33 touchdowns and 17 touchdowns for the Red Raiders. Bowman will compete with Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy for playing time, replacing Joe Milton in the quarterback room. He was replaced by Tyler Shough in Lubbock.

Recruitment will be what saves Jim Harbaugh at Michigan

Even after an awful 2020 season for the Michigan team, the Wolverines still finished with a top-10 recruiting class for the 2021 cycle. Harbaugh was able to hire Linguist away from the Cowboys, as well as his co-defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald away from his older brother’s Baltimore Ravens. Together, Linguist and Macdonald have brought such positive momentum to Ann Arbor.

Landing a blue-chip prospect like Johnson in-state is always great, but to top that off by getting a proven Power 5 starting quarterback in Bowman, now that is a terrific way to close out the weekend, ending February on a strong note. This is the type of recruiting effort Michigan must put forth to keep pace with the other blue-bloods in the Big Ten landscape. They crushed it on Sunday.

Look for Bowman to make an impact in 2021 and for Johnson to do the same thing in 2022.
