Ohio State and Iowa face off in a pivotal Big Ten showdown.

There is just over a week left in the college basketball regular season, and every game in the Big Ten will take on an even greater significance than the one before it. Sunday’s showdown between Iowa and Ohio State in Columbus is huge for two teams with aspirations to land on the top line in the NCAA Tournament.

The Hawkeyes head into this game coming off a disappointing performance in Ann Arbor, getting blown out by Michigan in a 79-57 defeat. The Wolverines did a good job containing Luka Garza, limiting Iowa’s star center to 16 points on just 6-of-19 shooting, and ran away from the Hawkeyes in the second half, outscoring Iowa 47-28 after the break.

The contest is also critical for Ohio State, which enters this game with its spot on the one-line in jeopardy thanks to a two-game losing streak. Falling at Michigan last Sunday was nothing to be ashamed of, but losing at an underachieving Michigan State on Thursday was a definite setback for the Buckeyes’ strong tournament resume.

Ohio State saw a five-point halftime lead slip away as the Spartans finished strong, rallying to score a four-point victory that significantly boosted Michigan State’s NCAA Tournament resume. A poor perimeter shooting performance didn’t help the Buckeyes, who shot just 4-of-14 from beyond the arc.

The lack of movement from other top contenders has helped the Buckeyes maintain their projected seeding entering this matchup. A third consecutive loss, however, would make it very difficult for Ohio State to still maintain a No. 1 seed entering March.
