Gerald Everett is headed to free agency and the Rams are going to need a No. 2 tight end if he leaves for greener, more lucrative pastures. Hendershot’s draft stock took a hit during his lackluster final season campaign at Indiana, but he’s still got the athletic ability required to get a long look in Round 7.

Hendershot is never going to be much of a contributor as a run blocker. He’s a pass-catching tight end all the way. He’s got solid speed and good route-running ability when he’s lined up in the slot. His best use at the NFL level is going to come as a flex guy in multiple tight end sets.

No evaluation of Hendershot can be complete without mentioning his off-the-field issues. Any team that drafts him will need to get comfortable with a troubling past.

That might cause teams to shy away from Hendershot altogether, but based on talent, he would give Los Angeles solid value in Round 7. Don’t underestimate what a coach like McVay can do with such a versatile receiver.
