Former Texans coach trashes J.J. Watt for no good reason

An anonymous former Houston Texans coach bashed J.J. Watt after he signed with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday.
Even though the NFL league year does not officially begin until March 17, J.J. Watt decided to sign on with his new team on the first day of March. After being granted his release from the Houston Texans this offseason, Watt agreed to terms with the Arizona Cardinals on a two-year, $31 million contract. While the signing was lauded by many, one individual decided to take a moment to discredit Watt.
A former Texans coach told Josh Reed of News 4 Buffalo that Watt was “selfish” and “only cared about his stats.” Not only that, but this anonymous individual claimed that Watt did more to hurt the Texans than help them and that they would not sign him if he were a free agent.

Anonymous coach says Watt hurt team more than helped
Safe to say this coach was not a fan of working with Watt. Due to anonymity, we do not know who this individual could have been, as Watt has been with Houston for 10 seasons and has worked with a variety of coaches.
In his ten seasons with Houston, Watt recorded 531 total tackles (172 for loss), 282 quarterback hits, 101 sacks, 61 passes defensed, 25 forced fumbles, 16 fumble recoveries, three defensive touchdowns and two interceptions. Aside from those numbers, Watt is a five-time Pro Bowler, five-time First Team All-Pro and three-time AP Defensive Player of the Year.
Perhaps the greatest honor Watt received was being named Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2017. With Houston dealing with the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, Watt set up a fundraiser that eventually raised over $37 million to help those in need.
An anonymous coach coming out to bash Watt after he joined a new team is nothing new in professional sports. It happens all the time, where a representative of a player’s former team comes out to say, “well, we didn’t want them anyway!” They have to put on a brave face, albeit anonymously.
Whatever this mystery coach believes, the Cardinals are not listening. They landed one of the biggest names on the open market, and they are excited for what Watt can bring in 2021.
