Chicago Bears intent on keeping Allen Robinson
The Chicago Bears have made it perfectly clear they don’t want wide receiver Allen Robinson suiting up for anyone else next season.
It goes without saying, but there’s been plenty of drama over the past year between standout wide receiver Allen Robinson and the Chicago Bears. Robinson has been hoping to get a long-term contract offer from the team, but nothing has been put on the table just yet.
With trade rumors floating around too, it’s felt like Robinson’s future in Chicago has been clear as mud. Well, general manager Ryan Pace came out on Tuesday and said the team could be open to using the franchise tag on him for 2021. On top of that, Pace said he knows how valuable Robinson is for his offense.
Allen Robinson could end up being put on the franchise tag by the Bears this offseason
“We have a ton of respect for Allen,” Pace said on Tuesday via Pro Football Talk. “We have to do what’s best for the Bears too. We consider everything. No firm decision on that (franchise tag) yet, but we know we have it at our disposal. We want to keep our good players and Allen is a good player for us.”
Last season, Robinson was once again the No. 1 option in the aerial attack for Chicago. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder posted a career-high 102 receptions, while adding 1,250 yards and six touchdowns. The year before, his second with the Bears, Robinson caught 98 balls for 1,147 yards and seven scores. As you can see, he’s been outstanding for Chicago.
Yet, as you might imagine, he hasn’t been happy with his contract situation and he’s hoping to be paid like one of the top players at his position in the game. For now, the Bears may buy some time by using the franchise tag on him, but sooner or later, they’ll need to try and get something done here.
