Was Saturday Night Fever filmed in New York City?

The famous Stayin’ Alive track by Bee Gees was given even more notoriety thanks to this film and Tony Manero (John Travolta). This was Travolta’s first big break on the big screen and delivered a performance to remember.

The film accounts for life in the ’70s and how much the discos were a part of that social scene. In the movie, Manero lives and grew up in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. Manero is seen skipping to the beat during the opening scene along 86th Street in Bay Ridge. The pizza shop he visits to buy some mean pizza is actually still standing to this day. It’s Lenny’s Pizza and located on 86th Street also.

The Phillips School of Dancing, located along 7th Street, also in Bay Ridge, was where Manero meets with his dance partner Stephanie Magano (Karen Lynn Gorney). The dance school, interestingly enough, still stands today. His house is located on what’s considered to be the middle-class section of Brooklyn, 79th Street in Bay Ridge.

In light of the long-standing disco, 2001 Odyssey which is where Manero wore his infamous white suit (see above image) on the light-up dance floor was demolished in 2005. It stood along 64th Street and Eighth Avenue, also in Bay Ridge. It later became a gay men’s club which was the Spectrum. Also, the Verrazano Bridge that connects Brooklyn and Staten Island make an appearance.
