Was Ghostbusters filmed in New York City?

When you see you a huge Michelin Tire marshmallow-looking fella, along with non-living things, roaming the streets of New York, who you gonna call? This 1984 movie came right on time to meet the scene of what was 1980s New York. In other words, it was fitting.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, and Harold Ramis take the audience on a wild chase around the city to catch these things. The infamous firehouse where the crew is stationed at is located at North Moore Street in Tribeca. There are also the lion statues that guard the New York Public Library along 5th Avenue that was used for filming. Columbia University, Morningside Heights was used for filming as well. The university’s Low Memorial Library is seen when the three get kicked out of the building.

Finally, the Spook Central apartment building that’s possessed in Ghostbusters, is the 55 Central Park West building. It’s still got that eerie and Gothic look to the building, which helps characterize its use in the movie.
