Was Requiem for a Dream filmed in New York City?

Just a fair warning, this film can be disturbing and extremely sensitive to a lot of real-life situations. The 2000 film tells a story about how quickly things can turn for anyone facing drug addiction. In one word, this movie takes the meaning of the ripple-effect to the next level.

The movie itself was filmed in various places in New York. The movie is also based on the Hubert Selby Jr. novel titled by the same name. The apartment that was used for the filming of the main character’s Harry Goldfarb (Jared Leto) mom Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn) was shot at 31-52 Sixth Street in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn.

The Coney Island Boardwalk makes an appearance when Harry and Tyrone (Marlon Wayans) are carrying a large set TV to Harry’s mom’s house. Various features of  Coney Island also make an appearance, like the Rolling Thunder coaster which is no longer there. Also, the Steeplechase Pier in Coney Island can be seen during the movie.
