Was Carlito’s Way filmed in New York City?
Certainly, Al Pacino, when it’s all set and done, will be considered one of the best actors to ever grace the big screen. That being said, he’s had his share of New York film-based movies that are considered to be really good and contributors for their influence. Who can forget Dog Day Afternoon or The Godfather? Both are considered to be all-time greats. However, although this next movie came in Pacino’s later career stage, he still delivered a performance to remember.
Carlito’s Way takes setting in New York City. The scene in which Carlito (Pacino) and Gail (Penelope Ann Miller) are seen at is the Figaro Cafe located at Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village. The notorious jail-island, Rikers Island, located along the East River and between The Bronx and Queens, makes an appearance. The scene where Carlito mistrusted attorney, Dave Kleinfeld (Sean Penn), is seen snorting massive amounts of cocaine was at the then Copacabana on 10 East 60th Street. However, that’s no longer there.
Gail’s apartments overlook Gay Street in Greenwich Village. Finally, the notorious scene where Benny Blanco (John Leguizamo) shoots Carlito takes place at Grand Central Station on Park Avenue. Remember me? Benny Blanco from The Bronx. (Shoots).
