Was King Kong filmed in New York City?
The 1933 classic was remade in 1976 and 2005 with much more detail, color, and special effects. While those features are great for modernization purposes, it’s important to remember the influence of such a film in the first place.
Obviously, it’s largely outdated, but that shouldn’t hold people back from its originality and first of its kind. I mean was the world ready to see a huge ape climb the impeccable Empire State Building? We’re thinking people weren’t, which makes this film all the more important.
With an original cast that included Fay Wray and Robert Amstrong, those aspects helped the makeup of the film’s true form. There are other parts of the film that take place in L.A. and filming studios in the city. However, perhaps the only memorable scene and capture will always come back to that picture of Kong standing tall atop the 34th Street building that still stands tall to this day.
