Was Superman filmed in New York City?
This was one of those first-of-its-kind movies, especially during the 1970s. There had been several attempts at superhero movies to see Christopher Reeve as Superman, there couldn’t have been anyone else to do such an excellent job. The 1978 version may be outdated by today’s standards when it comes to filming but it had an influence and contributing to a lot of today’s culture and superhero films.
Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) which everyone should know is the public identity of Superman, works as a reporter at The Daily Planet. The building used for the film is the News Building located at 220 42nd Street. It’s the former New York Daily News building.
The rescue scene where Clark rescues his love, Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) was filmed on the roof of the US Post Office Building, which stands at 450 Lexington Avenue in midtown Manhattan. We can’t forget the Grand Central Station-inspired hideout which was actually a set built for Lex Luthor’s lair.
