Was Big filmed in New York City?
This film gives insight for every kid who wished to suddenly be an adult. It’s a relevant story and something that hit home with a lot of kids. Tom Hanks takes us on a crazy imagination that comes true, at least for him, via a simple birthday wish.
Young Josh Baskin (David Moscow) wishes to become an adult and does so overnight. The grown-up Josh (Hanks) finally gets to see what’s it like to be an adult, but still keeps that 12-year-old mentality. He eventually does land a job at a toy company and helps his employer come up with a great idea.
Who can forget the scene where grown-up Josh is skipping on the big piano with his buddy at F.A.O. Schwarz, which stood alongside Fifth Avenue between 59th and 60th Street. Unfortunately, the long-time standing toy shop closed its door in 2015.
The fortune-telling machine Zoltar where it gets relocated to is at Playland Amusement Park in Rye, New York. Also who can forget the spacious and dream-come-true apartment every kid would love that Josh lived in as an adult? That’s the St. James Hotel, located at 109 West 45th Street.
