Michigan basketball looks to bounce back from its worst loss of the season as they begin a home-and-home series with Michigan State basketball.

The Big Ten has been America’s deepest conference all season long with at least a dozen teams in the mix for the NCAA Tournament at various points of the year. There are eight teams likely to make the field right now and Michigan State is looking to become the ninth by making a late push to get off the NCAA Tournament bubble.

The Spartans picked up a win they had to have on Tuesday night, topping Indiana 64-58 at the Breslin Center. Aaron Henry will Michigan State to victory in the game, scoring 22 points while also contributing eight rebounds and five assists to help the Spartans improve to 14-10 on the year.

The win was Michigan State’s fourth in its last five games, enough of a push to get the Spartans on the right side of the bubble for the moment. There is still plenty of work for Tom Izzo’s team to do, however, beginning with finding a way to secure a split in their home-and-home series with Michigan.

The Wolverines come into this contest fresh off their second loss of the season, a shocking 76-53 beatdown by Illinois at the Crisler Center. The Fighting Illini dominated the game from the opening tip, an impressive feat since they were without star Ayo Dosunmu, who is in the concussion protocol after a cheap shot in Illinois’ loss to Michigan State last week.

Right now the goal for Michigan is to put that loss behind them and Juwan Howard’s squad should come out very angry for this contest. That is bad news for the Spartans, who can’t afford to take on many more defeats as they try to get into the field ahead of Selection Sunday.
