Texas basketball is looking to score a big win over rival Oklahoma with NCAA Tournament seeding on the line.

The Big 12 has been the most stacked conference in the country all season long and it has been the toughest league pound-for-pound for a while now. All seven of the Big 12’s potential tournament teams could end up with top four seeds in the NCAA Tournament, making games like tonight’s showdown between Texas and Oklahoma extremely important.

The Longhorns entered the week off a tough loss to Texas Tech but quickly righted the ship with an easy 81-67 win against Iowa State on Tuesday. Kai Jones came off the bench to lead Texas with 17 points, one of four Longhorns to score in double figures in the contest.

The win was a key one for Texas since the Longhorns end the regular season with a three-game road trip. The back end of the trip is a winnable game against TCU, making tonight’s game against Oklahoma the one that could be the difference between a perfect week for the Longhorns and at least one loss.

This contest is of more importance to the Sooners, who have stumbled down the stretch. Oklahoma has lost three straight games, including a rough defeat to lowly Kansas State before getting swept by Oklahoma State in a home-and-home version of Bedlam.

There were points in late January where there was a case to be made for Oklahoma to end up on the top line in the NCAA Tournament, a case that can’t be made anymore. The Sooners are falling down the seed line and they desperately need this win to build some momentum ahead of the Big 12 Tournament.
