Seahawks: Russell Wilson’s former teammate backs Pete Carroll
By John Buhler
One former Seattle Seahawks player is siding with Pete Carroll over Russell Wilson in their rift.
With Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson now having a tenuous working relationship, one former Seattle Seahawks player is coming to the defense of the long-time head coach.
The former Seahawk spoke with NFL reporter Dov Kleiman on the condition of anonymity. “I just hear people calling for Pete’s head way too often. And they need to be careful what they wish for…Russ is 1-3 in the playoffs without an all time defense and an elite run game. He wanted it on his shoulders and this has been the result. But the blame will go to anyone but him.”
Russell Wilson has not been able to hold up his end of the bargain in the playoffs
The significance of the 1-3 record in the playoffs has to do with the end of the Legion of Boom era in Seattle. Since the Seahawks’ transcendent secondary broke up, the only team Wilson and the Seahawks have been able to beat in the postseason were the 2019 Philadelphia Eagles. Seattle is coming off a tough home loss to the division rival Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Wild Card round.
Though one could argue that Carroll has taken complete advantage of an ownership-in-flux situation in Seattle, the Seahawks have never had this level of sustained success prior to him arriving in the Pacific Northwest. Then again, the Seahawks have done the bulk of their winning historically with Wilson as their starting quarterback.
It does feel like a certain breakup is upon us.
