Todd McShay predicts huge quarterback trade for 49ers in latest mock draft
If Kyle Shanahan truly wants to find the right quarterback, a bold draft day trade might be the answer.
The San Fransisco 49ers have been trying to calm rumors that they may be looking to move on from the quarterback Jimmy Garraoplo. They finished last in the division last season with a 6-10 record, certainly falling short of expectations. Garrapolo has been in San Fransisco the last three seasons and has missed 10+ games in two of those seasons.
Despite that fact, their general manager John Lynch said that there is no doubt that Jimmy G is the lead man for the franchise next year, even though they took a good look at Tom Brady before he eventually signed with the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Still, not all are convinced of the conviction in Lynch’s statement. ESPN’s Todd McShay has released his latest mock draft that suggests that the 49ers may be looking to jump into the top 10 in the draft to shake things up.
Todd McShay’s prediction for a 49ers quarterback trade
A few days ago, we reported that San Fransisco had contacted the Carolina Panthers about Teddy Bridgewater. Now, Todd McShay is entertaining the idea that the 49ers could push themselves into the top 10 in this year’s draft to snag a quarterback.
In his latest mock draft, McShay proposes a trade between the Denver Broncos and the Niners that would land the latter Mac Jones, the Alabama Crimson Tide QB fresh off of a national championship and Heisman candidacy.
Denver will be looking to address its defense. McShay can see them moving down to grab someone at No. 12. In this prospective trade, the Broncos something like an extra second-rounder (No. 43) and possibly a 2022 first- or second-rounder, in addition to that No. 12 pick in this year’s draft. Jones would fit well with Kyle Shanahan’s system and could come in as a backup to Garrapolo, who could still start and attempt to boost his trade value back up.
Though this is just a mock draft, it’s interesting to see how experts, and how the 49ers frankly, feel about Garrapolo. Could his time in San Fransisco be close to over?
