Browns: Kevin Stefanski’s comments prove Odell Beckham, Jr. isn’t leaving

For any Cleveland Browns fans that want Odell Beckham, Jr. gone, he’s not leaving.

The Cleveland Browns certainly will be a team to watch for in 2021. Not only did Baker Mayfield take the right steps in his third season, but Kevin Stefanski led the charge to break the Browns playoff-less streak.

They also beat the Steelers in the Wild Card round and took the Kansas City Chiefs down to the wire.

Stefanski knows that there will be necessary moves to help the franchise improve in 2021. With that in mind, the status of Odell Beckham, Jr. is still up in the air. For the right price, would he be available on the open market?

Hate to break the news, but Stefanski isn’t making OBJ available anytime soon. He sounded optimistic when talking about making things work with both Jarvis Landry’s and Beckham’s lucrative salaries.

“I think we’re in a good spot,” Stefanski told Keyshawn Johnson on ESPN Radio’s ’Keyshawn, Will and Zubin’ show. “The easy part to say is, ‘Hey, just give us more players. Give us three more great players on the offensive side, and give us three players on the defensive side, and we’re going to spend this amount on each guy.’ I think we have a plan. We’ll follow through with that plan.”

Browns: Is Odell Beckham, Jr. in Cleveland’s long-term plans?

Beckham, Jr., who is coming off a torn ACL, is scheduled to make $15.75 million in salary and bonuses this season. Landry is set to make $13.253 million this year. Combined, their cap hit is about $30.5 million, which could be the highest among wide receiver tandems in the NFL per roster.

Beckham, Jr. is a star still at wide receiver, but is he “the star” with Cleveland? After being ruled out for the season in Week 7, Cleveland finished the season on a 6-3 run. Mayfield looked better as a passer and the team saw potential in both Rashard Higgins and rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Beckham, Jr. finished the season with 23 catches for 319 yards and three touchdowns.

Per Mary Kay Cabot of Clevleand.com, the Browns are looking to bring back Higgins. Entering free agency, the Brown has just under $25 million in cap space. That money also will soon need to towards keeping Nick Chubb for their future after 2021.

Maybe the Browns move off of Beckham, Jr. in 2022. For 2021, he’ll be staying in Cleveland.
