DraftKings THE PLAYERS Championship picks: $8,000 range
Scottie Scheffler, $8,900 – Scottie Scheffler is a guy who could pop this week. He has a ton of distance off the tee but has been a top-five guy in accuracy with the driver. That combo and a nice iron game could set him up nicely. Experience is the only issue.
Daniel Berger, $8,800 – After winning Pebble Beach, Berger dropped out of the top 30 at The Concession. He’s been a bit inconsistent and there are, frankly, just better options around him at THE PLAYERS, even if he’s one of the more underrated players in the world.
Hideki Matsuyama, $8,700 – Anyone who buys into the first round played last year is going to be in on Matsuyama. Not only was he the leader but he tied a tournament record with a 63. He’s not been in the best form overall but does quietly have two-straight top-20s.
Jordan Spieth, $8,600 – Given that driving accuracy is key, you might want to fade Spieth. But his return to form has been in spite of his driver, largely, so it’s hard to totally dismiss him at THE PLAYERS. He’s got some magic mojo working that can’t be overlooked.
Tyrell Hatton, $8,500 – Since missing the cut at The Masters, Hatton hasn’t finished outside the top 25 in any worldwide start. He showed grit at the API last week as he climbed to 21st after a first-round 77. And his game, if in form, could be a nice fit for TPC Sawgrass.
Paul Casey, $8,400 – Casey has been one of the best iron players in the world of late and his value here could be tremendous. The issue is that the Englishman hasn’t been great at THE PLAYERS Championship as his best finish was in 2004 and he has six missed cuts in 12 starts.
Sungjae Im, $8,300 – After struggling to find his form early in the year, Sungjae Im has started to round into something solid of late with three top-25 finishes in his last five starts. Having said that, I’m not totally convinced he’s all the way back to compete here.
Matthew Fitzpatrick, $8,200 – Fitzpatrick has never finished in the top 40 in this tournament but his recent form is impressive. He’s been in the top 11 in his last three starts at some tough tracks and, if his driver continues to cooperate, he could pop here.
Adam Scott, $8,100 – He has to be mentioned as a past champion but Scott hasn’t been in great form this year outside of a top-10 at the Farmers. Frankly, your money on DraftKings could be spent better elsewhere.
Jason Day, $8,000 – Day is another past champ but he’s quietly shown some solid form with a top 10 at Pebble Beach, top 20 at The Concession and then playing well at the API prior to a brutal Sunday. He likes this place and we’ve seen that play well for the Aussie in the past.
