2. New England Patriots

The Patriots’ offense was, to put it too simply, pretty ugly last season. No team needs reinforcements at wide receiver more, and with the cap space they have ($68.52 million; third-most in the league) signing Sanders would be a start on that front.

New England’s interest in Sanders goes back to 2013, when he was a restricted free agent and they signed him to an offer sheet. Pittsburgh matched it, and Sanders landed with the Denver Broncos the following year. When he was available via trade in 2019, and in free agency last offseason, the Patriots were linked to him. But again, it did not come together.

If the Patriots still like Sanders, this is their best chance to get him and it’s not close. The end of career bets they’ve made on wide receivers haven’t always worked out (Reggie Wayne, Chad Johnson, Torry Holt), but all options have to be on the table this offseason. The clear question for Sanders would be the Patriots’ quarterback situation, and what answer he may get on that before signing.
