Some bad news has arrived for the New York Mets, as Carlos Carrasco has been experiencing some elbow soreness during spring training and will be shut down for a few days.

With the New York Mets entering the 2021 campaign with plenty of confidence, especially after landing Francisco Lindor in a blockbuster deal, we can’t forget that the team has some injuries to worry about.

Star pitcher Noah Syndergaard is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and will miss the start of the season. Another hurler who may not be ready to rock on Opening Day is Carlos Carrasco, as the righty has been dealing with elbow soreness in spring training.

Carlos Carrasco’s elbow injury is something Mets fans should be worried about

It’s obviously a terrible sign if the pain has gotten to the point with the hard-throwing righty that the Mets have decided to shut him down for a few days. If things go according to plan for skipper Luis Rojas, then Carrasco, who was part of the Lindor package, will return to the bump next week to try and face some batters.

The veteran starter is in his first year in Queens after spending the first 11 campaigns of his career with the Cleveland Indians. During his time in the AL Central, Carrasco went 88-73 and posted a 3.77 ERA.

Last season, he went 3-4 during the shortened 60-game campaign, but really impressed with a 2.91 ERA, his lowest since 2014 (2.55). Now, Carrasco is hoping to make some noise in the NL East with the Mets, as the club really has hopes of potentially winning the division this year.

In order for that to happen, the team will need to get healthy, especially when it comes to the starting rotation. Come next week, we could have some more clarity on how serious Carrasco’s injury is, but things don’t look great right now.
