Ohio State basketball snapped a three-game skid with a win over Minnesota and needs to find a way to beat Purdue in the Big Ten Tournament.

The stakes for teams participating in the Big Ten Tournament are all over the map. The goal for the Ohio State Buckeyes entering Indianapolis was to simply stop the bleeding of a season-ending skid and maintain their position on the two-line of the NCAA Tournament.

The Buckeyes did the easy part on Thursday, beating Minnesota 79-75 in a game that got a bit too close for comfort down the stretch. Chris Holtmann’s team nearly blew a 12-point halftime lead as the Golden Gophers made a late push that almost saw Ohio State blow a 14-point advantage in the final three and a half minutes of the contest.

A win is a win, however, and Ohio State needed one badly after entering the Big Ten Tournament on a three-game losing skid. All of the losses were to future tournament teams but those defeats knocked the Buckeyes off the top line of the projected bracket.

Ohio State is clinging to its place on the two-line right now and needs to find a way to topple Purdue in order to maintain it. The Boilermakers should be well-rested after earning a double-bye into the quarterfinals, setting themselves up for a chance to improve their own seeding in March Madness.

Purdue has had Ohio State’s number this season, sweeping the Buckeyes to help propel their own surge up the Big Ten standings. Those wins came by a combined nine points so a third close game is likely in the cards.
