Chiefs: Juan Thornhill drops vague tweet ahead of free agency
Chiefs safety Juan Thornhill tweeted a vague message that has Kansas City wondering if good news is coming to the secondary.
Does Chiefs’ safety Juan Thornhill know something we don’t?
On Friday, the defensive back jumped on social media and tweeted something vague enough to get people talking.
What could that mean?
A radio personality guessed the news: Could it be a development for the Honey Badger?
In any case, that’s two Chiefs safeties making social media statements that have people looking out for news from the team.
The Chiefs want to keep Tyrann Matthieu and Juan Thornhill around
Mathieu is definitely in line for a contract extension from the Chiefs. General manager Brett Veach said as much a week ago. He’s in the final stretch on a three-year $42 million contact. If Kansas City doesn’t lock him in now, he’ll enter free agency next year.
Of course, Thornhill could be talking about something totally different or something relating to their personal lives.
Thornhill is entering his third year in the league. The Chiefs drafted him in 2019, using a second-round pick to add the safety out of Virginia.
He started 16 games as a rookie, tallying 58 tackles and three interceptions, including a touchdown return. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL in the final game of the regular season. Returning for Year 2, Thornhill started the first six games of the season, but his body couldn’t quite hold up. While dealing with his knee injury’s lingering impact, his snaps were limited in the second half of the year.
In 2021, he’ll look to regain the form of his rookie season, finally 100 percent healthy. If Tyrann Mathieu is once again his safety partner, that will make his life that much better. Who wouldn’t want to play beside a first-team All-Pro like the Honey Badger?
