Packers latest move proves long-term faith in Jordan Love

The Packers are moving Jordan Love up the depth chart, and it’s about damn time.

When you’re the Green Bay Packers, and you select a quarterback in the first round despite still possessing Aaron Rodgers on your team, you make him the backup QB. In this scenario, you’re also wrong for drafting him in the first place.

The Packers selecting Jordan Love in the first round sent shockwaves around the NFL last April, and for good reason. The Utah State quarterback was relatively unproven, even in college, and sent a clear message to Rodgers who was coming off an NFC Championship season. Rodgers responded by reaching the same team heights, but winning the NFL MVP this time around for good measure.

Meanwhile, Love didn’t suit up for several games, and often sat behind Tim Boyle on the depth chart.

Love is a project, sure, but you don’t select a project in the first round of the NFL Draft, especially with a chance to improve upon a team so close to Super Bowl contention. Rodgers is still lacking another weapon on the outside next to Davante Adams,

. Instead, the Packers have an extra quarterback making first round money waiting for Rodgers to deteriorate. Unfortunately for Love, Rodgers is only getting better, while the Packers front office looks increasingly stupid for such a selection.

And this isn’t to say that the Packers front office is inept. They’ve made plenty of solid decisions to create an NFC Championship-level roster, but should they wish to be proven right about Love, they’ll need him to successfully follow in the footsteps of a future Hall of Famer.
