ACC Tournament championship: FSU basketball vs. Georgia Tech live stream, odds, channel, pick
FSU basketball can win its second ACC Tournament championship by knocking off Georgia Tech tonight.
Of all the conference tournaments we have seen this week the ACC Tournament has certainly been the strangest. Duke and Virginia had to withdraw from the event after members of their programs tested positive for the coronavirus, setting the stage for a final where each team has played a grand total of one game leading up to the championship game.
One of the biggest beneficiaries was Florida State, which had earned a bye to the quarterfinal round before their scheduled opponent (the Blue Devils) withdrew. As a result, the Seminoles took the floor in Greensboro for the first time in last night’s semifinal, a tight 69-66 win over North Carolina.
Strong defense was the key to the victory for Florida State, which limited the Tar Heels to just 33.8 percent shooting from the floor. That performance allowed the Seminoles time to shake off the rust of a six-day layoff from their previous game, a loss to Notre Dame to end the regular season.
Florida State’s opponent in the final is Georgia Tech, which earned a double-bye into the quarterfinals before topping 13th-seeded Miami in a four-point win. That victory set the Yellow Jackets up to play Virginia, but since the game was uncontested Georgia Tech advanced to the final without having to play a game yesterday.
This ACC final is unique for many reasons, including the fact that it will be the first to not feature either Duke or North Carolina since 1996 and the first without a team from the state of North Carolina since 1990. Georgia Tech and Florida State split their season series with each defending their home court, although both matchups occurred before the end of January.
