Terrell Gausha stuns Jamontay Clark with second round TKO victory (video)

Terrell Gausha showed that an old dog could have new tricks by knocking out the bigger, younger Jamontay Clark in round 2. 

At 33 years old and without a victory since 2018, boxer Terrell Gausha needed a win and got it spectacularly against Jamontay Clark.

Gausha (22-2-1, 11 KOs) showed a lot of promise as an amateur and early on in his career. He was a 2012 Olympian and won his first 20 professional bouts.

Gausha’s road became rough when he lost a unanimous decision to Erislandy Lara in 2017. He went on to have a split draw with Austin Trout in 2019 and had a lethargic performance against Erickson Lubin in 2020, which he lost.

At 33 years old, Gausha badly needed a win on Saturday, March 13, against the younger Clark on the undercard of the David Benavidez vs. Ronald Ellis. Gausha produced fireworks from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.

Clark (15-2-1, 7 KOs) had youth and size on his side against Gausha. According to many boxing pundits, at 26 years old and at 6-foot-2, Clark had the edge going into his contest with Gausha. His only blemish was a 2018 decision loss to Jeison Rosario, but Gausha took care of him quickly.

Terrell Gausha scored an impressive stoppage over Jamontay Clark and shows that he’s still a junior middleweight contender.

There wasn’t much action between Gausha and Clark in round 1, but round 2 was a different story. The southpaw Clark tried to land his straight, long left against Gausha, but he missed and was timed by the veteran. Gausha caught Clark with a counter right to the jaw that put Clark on the canvas.

Clark beat the count, but Gausha jumped on him with a flurry of punches. Clark was hurt and taking more punishment. The referee stopped the fight giving Gausha the win by round 2 TKO.

The odds were close between the two, but the measurables were in Clark’s favor. Gausha used his experience to beat the younger fighter from Cincinnati. Gausha told FanSided after the fight that he made it a point to start faster in this fight than when he fought Lubin.

Gausha was a man of his word and opened a lot of eyes with his stoppage of Clark. Gausha is still here and ready to give the junior middleweight division a problem.
