Kyle Pitts was an unstoppable weapon for Florida football, so which teams could look for him to be that at the next level by way of the 2021 NFL Draft?

When people talk about the 2021 NFL Draft, the two positions that are constantly raved about are the quarterbacks and wide receivers. The depth and quality at those positions is quite impressive but, specifically with the wideouts, the strength of group could be heightened if expanded to “pass-catchers”. That way, Florida football star Kyle Pitts can be added to the fray.

There is an argument to be made that Pitts is the best pass-catcher in the 2021 draft class, even if he’s listed as a tight end. He dominated over the past two seasons with the Gators. Despite being limited to just eight games in 2020 due to injury, the dynamic playmaker caught 43 passes for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns.

To put it plainly, Pitts is the epitome of a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. He’s too big at 6-foot-6 and 246 pounds for cornerbacks and safeties to adequately match his physicality while he’s also too fluid and athletic for most linebackers to hang with him in coverage. Pitts can make his hay in the red zone easily but he’s a weapon at every level of the field.

So as Kyle Pitts makes his way to the pro ranks from Gainesville, let’s look at the best fits in the 2021 NFL Draft for the Florida football sensation.

Kyle Pitts 2021 NFL Draft landing spot No. 5: Dallas Cowboys

Just last year in the draft, the Dallas Cowboys spurned their biggest needs on defense in the first round when Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb fell into their laps. But now they surely wouldn’t do that again if Pitts fell to the No. 10 pick…right?

Well, you can never count out Jerry Jones looking to make headlines and, despite the still-present needs on defense (particularly in the secondary), the Cowboys could stand to upgrade at tight end. Blake Jarwin has been a fine player with healthy and Dalton Schultz flashed but they don’t have a player who presents the matchup problems that Pitts would.

It would indeed be shocking if the Cowboys actually put Kyle Pitts on their draft card in late April but you would’ve said the same about Lamb last year. If he’s still on the board when Dallas is on the clock, you can’t rule out another splashy offensive move to set up now-paid Dak Prescott for success.
