Sources: Strong market developing for ex-Panthers cornerback Rasul Douglas
Rasul Douglas is drawing significant interest as NFL free agency approaches, and it appears he will be moving on from the Carolina Panthers, league sources tell FanSided
Barring a significant change in the coming days, it appears cornerback Rasul Douglas has played his final game in a Carolina Panthers uniform.
League sources tell FanSided that a strong market is developing for Douglas ahead of NFL free agency officially opening on Wednesday, with several teams interested, but the Panthers have not expressed any interest in bringing Douglas back.
Douglas, 25, was originally chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft and played the first three seasons of his career prior to being released last summer and signing with the Carolina Panthers.
Rasul Douglas will be a coveted free agent
Last season, Douglas produced 62 tackles and broke up nine passes.
Emerging as an outside cornerback for the Panthers last season, Douglas started 11 games in 2020 after spending significant time in the slot during his time with the Eagles. Douglas is more than adequate in coverage and has flashed an ability to be an above-average back-seven run-defender, making 14 run-stops last season.
Douglas has plenty of upside, and it isn’t surprising to see him drawing interest at a premium position. Through his first 60 games, Douglas has produced 180 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, five interceptions, and has broken up 34 passes.
Given Douglas’ age, versatility, and consistency, some team is going to be adding a solid piece to their secondary in Douglas this offseason.
