Ben Simmons claps back at Wizards broadcaster who called him ‘overrated’

Ben Simmons is having another fantastic season but that’s just enough for some people. Luckily, Simmons knows which opinions matter.

It sometimes seems that every conversation about Ben Simmons starts with his 3-point shooting (he’s 2-of-7 on the season). But way too often, it ends there.

It’s true that Simmons hasn’t made much improvement as an accurate outside shooter but he’s averaging career-highs inside the arc and from the free-throw line this season. He’s continued to leverage his skill set to become one of the most well-rounded players in the league, averaging 16.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game this season. Oh, and he’s a legitimate candidate for Defensive Player of the Year.

Outside of making some 3s, he’s doing everything the 76ers could ask of him this year, and it’s paying off. The 76ers have the best record in the Eastern Conference and have been thriving in the minutes he’s on the floor with Embiid, outscoring opponents by an average of 14.5 points per 100 possessions with an offensive efficiency that borders on elite.

But all that isn’t enough for some people, like Washington Wizards’ broadcaster Justin Kutcher who called Ben Simmons overrated during a recent broadcast, and then doubled-down on his comments later on Twitter.

How did Ben Simmons respond to being called ‘overrated’?

Simmons’ responded as he should, with a “Bye, Felecia” statement pointing out exactly who the negative comments were coming from.

The height dig is probably unnecessary but it is what it is. The haters can keep chirping while Simmons keeps grinding towards a deep playoff run for his 76ers.
