1. Tyrod Taylor, Houston Texans

The only NFL franchise doing a worse job at handling their quarterback room than the Bears is the Texans. Houston’s decision to pay Taylor up to $12.5 million next season is perplexing at best.

In theory, Houston remains committed to keeping Deshaun Watson. If that holds true, paying Taylor that much money to hold a clipboard in 2021 is foolish.

The choice becomes more financially reasonable if Watson ultimately gets his wish and secures a trade. It’s still not a great signing under those circumstances. Taylor’s ceiling as a quarterback is as a caretaker. At the moment, the Texans don’t have anyone to groom behind him on their depth chart.

There’s just no real value in Houston investing big money in barely competent quarterback play. If they deal Watson their goal should be to bottom out and secure a very high draft pick in 2022. Taylor might torpedo those efforts by piloting this team to five or so wins. This could turn into the most disastrous free agency move of the offseason as a result.
