Kyle Long says why he chose the Kansas City Chiefs over the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.

After spending a year out of football, former Chicago Bears offensive guard Kyle Long decided to join the Kansas City Chiefs over the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021 NFL free agency.

While the Chiefs made sense for Long as a landing spot, as they were in dire need of offensive line help, as well as his former Bears head coach Matt Nagy being an Andy Reid disciple, Long is the son of Raiders legendary defensive end, Howie Long. As much as it pains his father for him to go to the Chiefs, Long did spell it out: “It becomes apparent that things are different here.”

Kyle Long just threw the entire Las Vegas Raiders’ culture under the bus

For Raider Nation, this is the painful truth. You know that Long grew up idolizing his Hall-of-Fame father, who spent his entire NFL career with the Silver and Black. However, the Raiders have been a far cry from what they were when Long’s father starred for them. The Raiders have one winning season since getting to the Super Bowl in 2002. Kansas City went back-to-back out of the AFC.

You cannot blame Long. After spending a year out of football to heal his body and reflect on the seven years prior, Long clearly made the best decision for him and his football career. He can be a reason the Chiefs win the AFC West again and push for a third straight trip to the Super Bowl.

If the son of a legend does not want to Commit to Excellence, the standard has to be addressed.

Long will fit in nicely with the Chiefs where hating the Raiders is a prerequisite to joining the organization.
