Tom Izzo and Gabe Brown get in shouting match at halftime (Video)
By Scott Rogust
Even though Michigan State led UCLA heading into halftime, forward Gabe Brown and head coach Tom Izzo got into a screaming match.
The 2021 NCAA Tournament kicked off on Thursday night with the First Four Round. After seeing the likes of Drake, Texas Southern and Norfolk State advance to the Round of 64, there was one more spot remaining.
Michigan State led UCLA 44-31 seconds before halftime in a fight for the 11-seed in the East Region. But at the end of the half, it appeared that forward Gabe Brown missed a defensive assignment that resulted in UCLA guard Jaime Jacquez Jr. jump shot to cut their deficit to 44-33.
As the teams exited the court, Brown and head coach Tom Izzo got into a verbal disagreement on the court that escalated into a shouting match. The interaction continued from the court all the way into the locker room.

Tom Izzo and Gabe Brown get into heated halftime exchange
This is far from the first time that Izzo got into a heated exchange with one of his players in a way worthy of negative attention. While arguments are expected to happen between player and coach, especially in the must-win NCAA Tournament, Izzo raised some eyebrows after he grabbed Brown by his arm and the back of his jersey in attempt to continue the conversation.
Former Michigan State player and current Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green downplayed the interaction on Twitter, calling it a âtypical Michigan State exchangeâ and that this was âwhat winning looks like.â
Regardless of the outcome of this game, this heated argument between Izzo and Brown will gain the majority of the attention.
