Red Sox: NESN adding Boston legends to broadcast booth

NESN is adding some Boston Red Sox legends to their broadcasts for the 2021 season.

The Boston Red Sox enter the 2021 season looking to rebound from a down 2020 campaign. The team brought back manager Alex Cora and signed free agents like Enrique Hernandez, Marwin Gonzalez and Hunter Renfroe. With the new look Red Sox set to take the field, the NESN is making some additions of their own to their broadcast.

According to Chad Finn of the Boston Globe, NESN is bringing in former Red Sox stars Ellis Burks, Mo Vaughn, Kevin Youkilis and Jonathan Papelbon to join their broadcast.

Burks will be a part of the pre-and-postgame programs and serve as an occasional analyst with Jerry Remy and Dennis Eckersley. Vaughn, Youkilis and Papelbon will all serve as studio analysts once a week.

Boston was first introduced to Burks in 1987, where he spent a total of six consecutive seasons before returning for one last go in 2004. Burks slashed .280/.341/.455 while recording 94 home runs, 388 RBI and 791 hits in his seven total seasons. In a Red Sox uniform, Burks made the All-Star team, won a Gold Glove and earned a Silver Slugger award, all in the 1990 season.

Vaughn spent eight years with the Red Sox (1991-98), where his best season came in 1995. That campaign, the first baseman led the league with 126 RBI and walked away with the AL MVP award. Vaughn accumulated a .304 batting average, a .936 OPS, 230 home runs and 752 RBI during his time with the Red Sox, where he also earned three All-Star Game nominations (1995-96, 1998) and a Silver Slugger award (1995).

Youkilis was a prominent figure for the Red Sox as they went from cursed franchise into multi-time World Series champions. The first and third baseman slashed .287/.388/.487 while notching 133 home runs, 564 RBI and 961 hits. Youkilis was a three-time All-Star (2008-09, 2011), a one-time Gold Glove winner (2007) and most importantly, a two-time World Series champion.

Papelbon made a name for himself with the Red Sox from 2005 until 2011 as their closer. Through his six seasons, Papelbon recorded a 2.33 ERA, a 1.018 WHIP and 219 saves. Papelbon was named to four All-Star Games and won the World Series in 2007 during his time in Boston.
