Devin Haney gets huge Alfredo Santiago knockdown tattoo on his leg (Photo)

WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney got his 2019 knockdown of Alfredo Santiago tattooed on his right shin to savor the moment. 

Boxer Devin Haney just got some new ink added to his body in honor of himself.

On Saturday, March 20, DAZN Boxing posted some pictures on Twitter of Haney’s new tattoo on his leg depicting his 2019 knockdown of Alfredo Santiago. It’s a curious choice, but it’s a moment Haney seems to be very proud of.

Haney (25-0, 15 KOs) is only 22 years old but already holds a world title. He was the interim WBC lightweight champion but was elevated to full champion in October of 2019. Vasiliy Lomachenko was the recognized WBC champion but got bumped up to “Franchise” status by the WBC. He lost that title to Teofimo Lopez in October.

One month after being named full champion, Haney defeated Alfredo Santiago by a unanimous decision. The fight’s highlight came in round 5 when Haney dropped Santiago with a left hook after rocking him with his right hand.

Santiago (13-1, 5 KOs) lost a lopsided decision for the first loss of his career. He stopped Tony Gomez in the first round in his next fight more than a year later.

Devin Haney has some fresh ink but will have some upcoming fights that could produce more memorable boxing moments

Santiago is a good but little-known boxer which makes that moment an interesting one to have permanently inked on Haney’s leg. Haney busted up Zaur Abdullaev’s nose in September of 2019 to force a referee stoppage in round 4.

Haney’s performance against Abdullaev is arguably the best of his career but apparently wasn’t picturesque enough to be immortalized on his skin.

Haney defeated Yuriorkis Gamboa by unanimous decision in his last fight. He received a lot of flack for not knocking Gamboa out. Gamboa was a former champion, but at 39, he’s well past his prime.

Haney has a rivalry with fellow undefeated lightweight Ryan Garcia. The two fought four times as amateurs winning two matches apiece. They have gone back and forth at each other on social media for some time. Garcia knocked out Luke Campbell in January and is the current interim WBC lightweight champion.

Haney is likely tied up with upcoming bouts with Jorge Linares and Javier Fortuna next, but a contest with Garcia would be a megafight. If Haney were to beat Garcia, that would probably produce an ink-worthy moment for Haney.
