The Green Bay Packers could stand to add a wide receiver this offseason. Luckily for them, former Indianapolis Colts wideout T.Y. Hilton is still on the open market.

Prior to the start of the new league year, the Green Bay Packers made a move to retain running back Aaron Jones on a four-year, $48 million contract. Other than that, there hasn’t been much going on.

The Packers did almost receive a gift from the rival Chicago Bears, as they opted to release star cornerback Kyle Fuller to free up cap space. Green Bay did have interest in him a couple of years ago, but they ultimately lost out to the Denver Broncos on Saturday, as Fuller chose to reunite with former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

With money to spend, the Packers need to bolster their receiving corps much like they needed to do last offseason. Sure, top names like Kenny Golladay, Will Fuller and JuJu Smith-Schuster are off the board, but the Packers could pivot towards a veteran on the open market. Of course, we are talking about T.Y. Hilton.

Packers: T.Y. Hilton could be a tremendous get for Green Bay’s receiving corps

The Packers did manage to make it to the NFC Championship Game last season with a receiving corps of Davante Adams, Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. But considering they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who managed to retain the pivotal players on their roster this offseason, the Packers should be stacking up their team to make a run to the Super Bowl in 2021.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers won an NFL MVP award with this wideout group, how about reward him with a receiver like Hilton?

Hilton is three seasons removed from a 1,270 yard, six touchdown campaign. His “worst” season came in 2019, where he put up a career-low 501 receiving yards, but he missed six games due to multiple leg injuries. Hilton did put up better numbers with Philip Rivers throwing him the ball in 2020, as  tallied 56 receptions for 762 yards and five touchdowns. Just think about that, Hilton has never accumulated fewer than 501 receiving yards in a season.

If there is one thing about Hilton that Rodgers will love, it is that he rarely drops the ball. According to Pro Football Reference, Hilton has dropped 10 total passes in the past three seasons.

The Packers simply have to add to their receiving corps if they want to make a run to the big game next season. That is why they need to pivot to signing Hilton to a deal this offseason.

Next. Giants bolster receiving corps by signing Kenny Golladay. dark
