Atlanta Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos has made it quite clear he’s concerned about the team’s depth leading up to the 2021 campaign.

Once again, the Atlanta Braves will have some monster expectations for the 2021 season. Fans everywhere are hoping not only for the club to capture the NL East title, but for them to go on a deep postseason run and potentially play in the World Series.

Leading up to the new season, though, general manager Alex Anthopoulos understands that his team isn’t perfect and there are still some issues for his clubhouse. Matter of fact, Anthopoulos said his top concern is the team’s depth with Game 1 of the regular season right around the corner.

Alex Anthopoulos is worried about the Atlanta Braves’ depth with Opening Day almost here

“I just know we’ve had a lot of things – as nice as it is to say we’ve won the division three years in a row – I look at the things we’ve overcome in those three years,” Anthopoulos told Gabriel Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “When you really look at it, there’s no doubt that 2018 of the three was not as strong as 2019 and 2020.

“But for the most part, things were pretty smooth in 2018. We didn’t have a whole lot go wrong. But we had more talent on those other clubs. We had a lot more things go wrong, whether it’s rotation, injuries, bullpen, and we were able to overcome them. We had depth to overcome those things.”

If you’re a Braves fan, you’ve got to be a little concerned seeing this quote from the Atlanta general manager. With a lack of depth, it will be as important as ever for the team to stay relatively healthy throughout the campaign.

Should they suffer some big injuries, that lack of depth Anthopoulos spoke about will only make things even tougher for the organization. If the general manager does want to try and fix things before Opening Day, he better get on the horn and see who he can go after as soon as possible.
