Saints: Cameron Jordan shouts out Sheldon Rankins for Jets deal
Cameron Jordan showed some big love to former Saints teammate Sheldon Rankins after he signed a new contract with the New York Jets.
In free agency, it can be tough for players to see their friends sign elsewhere and join a new team. At the same time, you know guys are fired up for one another when they land some big money. This is exactly the case for Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan and Sheldon Rankings.
News broke on Sunday that Rankins has agreed to a new contract with the New York Jets. While Jordan is bummed he won’t be playing with Rankins anymore, he’s also thrilled for his friend and his new adventure.
Sheldon Rankins has agreed to a new two-year contract with the New York Jets
As you can see from Jordan’s tweet posted above, he couldn’t be happier for Rankins and his move to the AFC East. According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, New York has inked the defensive tackle to a two-year contract worth up to $17 million.
Rankins made his Saints debut back in 2016 and enjoyed some solid campaigns for the squad. This of course includes 2018, where he finished the season with 40 tackles and eight sacks, starting every game for New Orleans that year.
This past season, Rankins appeared in 12 games, making one start. He posted 20 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Now, he’ll head to New York and hope to make some impressive plays over at MetLife Stadium for Jets fans to enjoy on Sundays.
As for Jordan, he’ll be ready to ball out for the Saints, but there’s no doubt he’ll be rooting on Rankins whenever he’s in action — just not when the Jets are taking on New Orleans, of course.
