Clemson football: 2 breakout players emerging in spring practice
By John Buhler
The Clemson football team could be getting a big boost or two in the trenches this season.
Even though it is still early in spring practice for the Clemson football program, a pair of defensive linemen caught the eye of one beat reporter.
Grace Raynor of The Athletic noticed that defensive tackles Demonte Capehart and Tre Williams look bigger in person than they did a year ago. While neither 2020 four-star recruit played all that much this past season, they are looking like they will be big contributors to the defensive line rotation along with Bryan Bresee in 2021. Look for the defensive line to be a strength for Clemson.
Demonte Capehart and Tre Williams are two no-doubt Clemson breakout stars
Capehart is 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds. While he only played in a game a season ago, he was the No. 5 player from South Carolina, the No. 5 defensive tackle in his class and the No. 34 overall player nationally in 2020, according to the 247Sports Composite. The Hartsville, South Carolina native made his way to Clemson after spending his senior season at the IMG Academy in Florida.
Williams is 6-foot-2.5 and 306 pounds. He too played sparingly in his freshman season with Clemson. According to the 247Sports Composite, Williams was the No. 3 player from Washington, D.C., the No. 11 defensive tackle in his class and the No. 94 player in the country for 2020. Look for these two defensive tackles to be a big reason why the Tigers reign supreme in ACC play next year.
Do not be shocked if Clemson has one of the best young defensive lines in the Power 5 in 2021.
