Michigan basketball: Chris Webber, Charles Woodson and Wolverines greats celebrate Sweet 16 appearance
Michigan basketball greats Chris Webber, Charles Woods, and Jalen Rose celebrated the Wolverines Sweet 16 berth on Twitter.
Michigan basketball avoided an upset bid from LSU in the second round of the NCAA tournament, to the delight of Wolverine greats on Twitter.
It wasn’t easy for Michigan, the No. 1 seed upon whose shoulders all hope for the Big Ten rest. In fact, the Wolverines looked in danger of being the lastest Big Ten team to lose this March as the Tigers led by as many as nine points.
However, Michigan dug in with Eli Brooks putting up 21 points, matched by Chaundee Brown off the bench. The two guards were hot from distance, the former hitting 5-of-9 and the latter hitting 3-of-6. Star freshman Hunter Dickinson had 12 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and a block.
Michigan basketball greats are enjoying the Wolverines March Madness run
Chris Webber, who took the Wolverines to the NCAA Tournament title game in 1993, was just one of the Michigan alumni who took to Twitter to celebrate.
Jalen Rose, who also starred for the Wolverines as they went to back-to-back championship games, also kept it simple with his reaction to the Sweet 16 bid.
Michigan football legend Charles Woodson had his say too.
The Wolverines are looking to take advantage of their first No. 1 seeding since the days of Webber and Rose by contending for a national title this year. They’ve gone to the Sweet 16 in four straight tournaments going back to 2017, but they are still looking for their first national championship since 1989.
If they want to make their first Elite Eight appearance since 2018, they’ll have to get by No. 4 seed Florida State. The Seminoles outpaced Colorado on Monday.
