Warriors: Steve Kerr ‘angry’ comments about Kevin Durant were misinterpreted
By Scott Rogust
The Golden State Warriors coach was not happy that his comments about the 2018-19 season were taken out of context by a single tweet.
The focus on the Golden State Warriors was supposed to be on their big game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. That has now taken a backseat to a viral story that took place on Monday evening.
A tweet surfaced of comments made by head coach Steve Kerr during an appearance on the “Real Ones” podcast with The Ringer’s Logan Murdock and Raja Bell, who said that he found the 2019-20 season more enjoyable than the 2018-19 campaign. The issue that surfaced from this is that the aforementioned post referred to the 2018-19 season as “Kevin Durant’s final season,” which caused a stir across social media and caught the attention of the Brooklyn Nets star.
During a press conference on Monday, Kerr clarified the comments made on the podcast, while also stressing that he was angry that a single tweet altered the context of it all. You can check out Kerr’s full comments in the tweet thread below:
Warriors: Steve Kerr ‘angry’ his comments were taken out of context by a single tweet
Kerr clarified what he meant by the “enjoyable” comments. The head coach said that the final year of Golden State’s five-season run was stressful and further exacerbated by the season-ending injuries to Durant and Klay Thompson in the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. Additionally, the Warriors also lost center DeMarcus Cousins to a torn left quadriceps in the first-round of the playoffs.
Those were the reasons why Kerr made, in his words, “the offhanded comment” that last season was more enjoyable.
Once that tweet was sent out, Durant replied “this is hilarious” through his personal Twitter account. That is when the story truly gained steam, and Kerr was livid with the individual in question for sending out the “irresponsible” tweet.
If you really want to listen to the full context of Kerr’s comments comparing the previous two seasons, then we advise you listen to Kerr’s appearance on the “Real Ones” podcast, which you can listen to at this link.
