5 players 49ers should draft in the first round
After a successful free agency, the 49ers can go in several directions in the first round.
The San Francisco 49ers are one of the hardest teams to predict when it comes to what they will do in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
After a successful first wave of free agency in which the Niners kept several members of an extremely talented roster in the building, San Francisco can look ahead to the draft with limited needs, meaning the 49ers can look for value and potentially adopt a best player available strategy.
Yet the one area considered a need by many is the most important position in football, with the Jimmy Garoppolo detractors growing louder after a season that only served to give further credence to the idea he is not the answer under center.
As such, the Niners are regarded as a candidate to trade up from number 12 to take one of the top quarterbacks in the draft not named Trevor Lawrence.
It’s debatable whether the 49ers will be able to put together a package attractive enough to get up to a position where they can land one of Zach Wilson, Justin Fields or Trey Lance.
And if they cannot or if they decide not to attempt to do so and stick at 12, they will still be in a position to add a premium talent to the roster and put Garoppolo in the best position possible to lead a second Super Bowl run in three seasons.
Here we look at five players who should be targets for the 49ers in the first round.
