Packers re-sign tight end Marcedes Lewis to multi-year deal

The Green Bay Packers and general manager Brian Gutekunst have signed veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis to a two-year deal. 

While it’s not the superstar addition for the offense that Green Bay Packers fans were hoping to see this week, general manager Brian Gutekunst has gone out and made sure that veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis won’t be going anywhere this offseason.

Matter of fact, he’ll be in town for at least the next two years. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers have agreed to a two-year contract with Lewis worth $8 million, with $4 million being guaranteed money.

Lewis has been with the Packers since 2018 and while he isn’t known for catching a ton of balls, he’s a warrior when it comes to blocking for the team. That’s something that Gutekunst understands, which is why he had no issues putting a two-year offer on the table for Lewis.

Last season, Lewis was held to only 10 catches for 107 yards and three touchdowns. With that said, again, his blocking has proven to be quite important for the squad and he’s also a threat to come down with some big catches in the end zone thanks to his 6-foot-6, 270-pound frame.

For Packers fans, though, the wait continues to see if the team will go out and add new weapons to the offense for Aaron Rodgers and head coach Matt LaFleur at some point this offseason. The team has already struck out in landing speedster Will Fuller, who signed with the Miami Dolphins earlier this month. On Wednesday, target T.Y. Hilton ended up signing a one-year deal to return to the Indianapolis Colts as well, which no doubt was a sting for Green Bay supporters.
