Chase Claypool made plenty of headlines on the field for the Steelers as a rookie. Unfortunately, now he’s made one off the field.

The Steelers love the fact that Chase Claypool uses his physicality on the outside to dominate opposing defensive backs. Presumably, higher-ups in the organization will be less enthused about their star wideout using his physicality in social settings.

TMZ posted a video on Wednesday in which Claypool appears to be engaged in a bar fight in Southern California on March 13. Neither the player nor anyone inside the Steelers organization has confirmed Claypool’s involvement at this time.

The report does specifically state that Claypool was not an instigator in regards to the incident. The man believed to be the NFL wideout does engage in the melee by kicking a man in the face at one point during the video.

It’s unclear whether or not any criminal charges will be filed, but the NFL does not rely on police activity before getting involved. It’s possible Claypool could suffer punishment from Roger Goodell’s office simply due to his involvement in a negative incident out in public.

At the very least, expect Steelers officials to have a conversation with Claypool and his representatives to encourage him to make better choices about where he spends his time in the offseason. Incidents like this have little upside for the player, the team he represents, or the league on the whole. Claypool doesn’t have a history of bad behavior so Steelers fans can reasonably hope this is just a circumstance of being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
