Seahawks reach breaking point with Jarran Reed after salary cap conversation

More details are coming through on the Seahawks’ surprising decision to part ways with fan-favorite defensive tackle Jarran Reed. 

What in the heck is going on in Seattle? On Thursday, some surprising news has come out of Lumen Field, with NFL insider Ian Rapoport reporting the Seattle Seahawks will be parting ways with veteran defensive tackle Jarran Reed.

According to Rapoport, it turns out the two sides had a discussion about potentially restructuring Reed’s contract. That conversation went so poorly that now the relationship is ruined and Seattle will either release Reed or trade him.

After what’s been going on with John Schneider, the front office and Russell Wilson this offseason, Seahawks fans now have to deal with a split between the team and Reed? Again, this really feels like it’s come out of nowhere and it’s not good whatsoever for the defense.

Reed checks in at 6-foot-3, 305 pounds. He’s an absolute force in the trenches and plugs holes with passion. Last season for Seattle, the veteran lineman recorded 38 tackles and an impressive 6.5 sacks. He’s been with the team since 2016, recording 194 stops and 22 sacks in a Seahawks jersey.

With this latest update, Pete Carroll is now going to be left scrambling to try and either replace Reed’s production late in free agency or address it in the NFL Draft. On the other side of things, Reed is undoubtedly going to have his phone blow up with teams hoping to get him to town for a visit if he’s released and becomes a free agent.

If Schneider is smart, he himself is on the horn as of this writing trying to get a strong return for his playmaker. What a mess for Seattle.
