Derrick Henry’s intense pushup routine showcases why he’s able to run over and through opposing defenders on an NFL gridiron.

From his playing days at Alabama to his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans, Derrick Henry has proved time and time again he is arguably the most dominant running back in the league. Standing at 6-foot-3, weighing in at 247 pounds, Henry makes for tough days at the proverbial office for defenders. They either get run over or stiff-armed into memedom.

For those wondering how Henry built his superhero-like physique, just take a look at his latest workout. For us mere mortals, we do normal pushups. Henry, on the other hand, balances on a medicine ball with a heavy chain around his neck all the while pushing down on a resistance band.

Titans: Derrick Henry does not do normal pushups in offseason training

We have a gut feeling a lot of people are going to imitate this workout when they return to the gym, and it probably won’t end well for them. You have to ease into this workout or you are going to get hurt.

It seemed like an impossibility that Henry would be able to improve on his 1,540-yard, 16-touchdown campaign in 2019. After signing a four-year, $50 million contract last offseason, the Titans running back told everyone to hold his beer and watch how it’s done.

In 2020, Henry rushed for an insane 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns on 378 yards while averaging 126.7 yards per game, all of which were league-highs. In terms of his yardage total, Henry is the eighth running back in NFL history to accumulate over 2,000 yards on the ground. Henry went on to handedly win the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award with 32 votes as he left Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Kansas City Chiefs signal caller Patrick Mahomes in the dust, both of whom received five votes each.

If this workout proves anything, it is that Henry is planning to outdo himself in 2021. Send your well wishes to all defenders who have to try and bring him down next season.
